Brasil via Chicago
started in June 18, 2002 as an effort from Shirley Vieira, Bill Peterson and Paulinho Garcia to bring to Chicago the Brazilian culture through its music and dance.Chicago is famous for its international events throughout the year such as: the World Music Festival, African Fest, Greek Fest among others, but Brasil via Chicago is the first group dedicated to the Brazilian culture. The Brazilian community in Chicago is growing as is the demand for Brazilian events. Chicago now have two fine Brazilian restaurants, three new Brazilian markets for food, clothing and jewelry, Brazilian music groups, capoeira group and the one and only Samba 1 dance group.
We have the full support of the General Consulate of Brazil in Chicago, the Brazilian Cultural Center, Latin communities and all of the local artists.
For our first concert we brought the samba group Molejo from Rio de Janeiro to the University of Chicago hall. The second concert was our collaboration with the famous African Fest to promote Daniela Mercury the Brazilian big star, our involvement in this project resulted in almost tripling the audience from the year before, proving that with our commitment and the support of our community we will soon rival the already established markets such as New York, New Jersey, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami. The following year 2003 we tried again bringing Chrigor (ex-Exalta Samba) and in the same year during the African Fest our guest was "Patrulha do Samba", from Bahia. At the end of 2003 Caetano Veloso came to Chicago and we participate unofficially communicating the local Brazilian Community. In 2004 the connection with the African Fest we we able to collaborate again and bring "As Meninas". In 2005 we have a dream of bringing Gilberto Gil and we are working on it and with collaboration of many we will make it happen.
If your company invests in the Brazilian market your sponsorship to our events would be beneficial to all of us, a great exposure to the Chicago Brazilian community plus a great exposure in Brazil since we advertised thru the Brazilian Globo Television which reaches not only the country Brazil but also the whole American territory thru their cable network. In addition the Brazil is in vogue and is attracting not only the Brazilians, but also a diversified culture worldwide.
Our goal is to bring the best of Brazil to Chicago and we want you to be part of it.
